A new Town Animal Shelter is coming to the Halesite area. The Huntington Town Board approved funding for a new animal shelter in Halesite at their recent meeting.

"This cost-efficient, state-of-the-art animal shelter facility will complement our shelter staff's great record of behavioral rehabilitation, training, and adoption of our furry friends," stated Huntington Supervisor Chad Lupinacci (R-South Huntington)..

The Animal Shelter is planned to be located on Creek Road, behind the CVS, near the Town's wastewater treatment facility.

According to Lupinacci, the new Animal Shelter is estimated to cost less than $7 million. Of that sum, $500,000 will be paid for in grant money from the New York State Companion Animal Capital Fund.

Local charities have pledged to donate another $500,000, and the town will contribute the balance to cover the remaining costs.
