Construction Starts on Old Town Hall Hotel

Construction is in full swing on the Old Huntington Town Hall to convert it into an 80-room boutique hotel. The new hotel is the brainchild of local businessman George Tsunis, who gave tours last week of the historic building and progress on the construction.

The 1910 building has been vacant for years, and will soon be re-opened as the boutique hotel, under the Hilton-Hampton Inn hotel franchise.

The project, which is projected to cost $24 million, is scheduled to open in October 2021.

According to developer Tsunis, the building cleanup began in 2020, prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Construction officially began in September. The hotel is set to include a lobby, gym, breakfast hall, restaurant, spa, and a total of 80 luxury rooms.

The project’s development can be traced back to 2013 when a 55-room boutique was planned, but in 2018, building permits expired and had to be renewed. In April, the Town Board voted for a new contract that lasts until 2023.

Huntington Village Hotel Partners took over the project in 2018, and expanded the hotel concept to 80 rooms. Tsunis is the managing partner for the Huntington Village Hotel Partners.

The Old Town Hall Historic Center was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
