Former Huntington Supervisor Chad Lupinacci (R-South Huntington) has been nominated by Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine (R-Brookhaven) to head-up the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency.
Lupinacci's nomination requires confirmation by the Suffolk County Legislature, which is expected to be done at the next Legislative meeting on February 3rd. The Republicans hold an 11 to 7 majority on the Legislature.
Lupinacci served as Huntington Supervisor from 2017 to 2021. He succeeded longtime Supervisor Frank Petrone, who retired in 2017. He is not related to Huntington Councilwoman Brooke Lupinacci (R-Lloyd Harbor)
Before that, Lupinacci served three terms in the New York State Assembly, representing the western side of the Town of Huntington. He also served on the South Huntington School Board.
The appointment to head a major Suffolk County agency is something of a comeback for Lupinacci, who retired from elected office in 2021, and then tried, unsuccessfully, to run last year for the County Legislature in District 16 (Dix Hills, Huntington Station and Brentwood), where he was defeated by incumbent Legislator Rebecca Sanin (D-Dix Hills).
The Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Agency handles motor vehicle traffic and parking tickets and summons - including the controversial "Red Light Camera" program. Lupinacci will succeed Bryan Browns, who was recently elected as a Judge.
Lupinacci will earn an annual salary of $171,000.00.
