Oyster Bay Officials issued an appearance ticket this week after police discovered a Kangaroo and several sloths inside a vehicle near the Karmic Grind coffee shop in Locust Valley.

According to multiple town officials the animals were being transported by an exotic exhibitor in a manner that violated local safety regulations.

The owners claimed that the animals were not injured – but the state and local laws prohibit the public presence of exotic animals like kangaroos.

Officers saw the kangaroo and sloths inside the vehicle during a routine check near the Karmic Grind, according to town officials, which prompted a closer inspection.

The driver was cited for “improper transport of exotic animals” and will have to appear in court, according to statements broadcast on News 12.

Officials noted that these “exotic animal” laws exist to protect residents, business, and the animals themselves.

A crowd gathered on the sidewalks in downtown Locust Valley during the traffic stop, as word spread that the police had found a kangaroo in Locust Valley.
