DeSena: No Tax Increase for the Town of North Hempstead

The Town of North Hempstead is freezing taxes for the 2027 Budget - after four consecutive years of tax cuts or freezes - with no reduction to services.

Supervisor Jen DeSena (R-Manhasset) made the announcement and praised the Town’s improved public safety, infrastructure, and strong fiscal management.

“This budget process reflects the culture we’ve built in Town government – one that looks for ways to save, work smarter, and streamline operations,” stated Supervisor DeSena. “Every dollar matters to our taxpayers, and we have made it a priority to find efficiencies wherever we can, without compromising the services our residents rely on.

“Our commitment to fiscal responsibility shapes everything we do,” added DeSena.

Town taxes were cut in years 2023, 2024, and 2025 and were subsequently held flat with a freeze in 2026.

In addition to a tax freeze, the DeSena administration is estimating a nearly $1 million operating surplus for Fiscal Year 2026 in the General Fund. DeSena credited her senior staff, department heads, and budget team for their continued commitment to delivering results without raising taxes.

The key components of North Hempstead’s 2027 Proposed Budget Include: No increase in the general fund taxes for the fifth straight year; No cuts in programs and services; Reductions in personnel achieved through retirement incentives; Substantial investments in Town infrastructure; Mandated increases include contractual labor costs, state-mandated pension and health insurance increases, and utility and gas increases.

North Hempstead’s 2027 Budget continues a successful fiscal approach that, over the past four years, has delivered a cumulative reduction to taxpayers of nearly 22%, while maintaining full services and producing consistent annual operating surpluses.
