August is known as the crazy season in the news cycles - as so many people take vacations and news stories get blown-up beyond all prediction: An infestation of squealing and frolicking Rats in Huntington; a Shark siting in Laurel Hollow that triggers the panic closing of beaches in Lloyd Harbor, Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay; and yet another story about Chinese spies living amongst us operating secretly out of yet another north shore mansion.

But the real story is that life on the north shore can be delightful - and that it is during the height of the summer that Long Island's north shore really shines.

We are now in August, and the days are slightly cooler, and just a little bit shorter, which presages the closing weeks of summer.

But these are the best weeks here on the north shore.

Life is just a little bit slower, as people take vacations - many of them "Stay-cations" on boats or by the pool.

The frenetic yacht racing season is coming to a close.  Just look out at any of out bays and harbors, and you can see a sailboat race - Opti dinghy races for the young sailors; laser and sonar races for the teenagers; and full-fledged 6 meter and racing yacht races for the adults.

Families are more settled into going out on the town for dinner or just a stroll.

And the 90 degree dog days of July have eased into the cooler 80 degree human days of August.

Take advantage of this time to really enjoy the north shore.  Stroll our lovely downtowns - from Northport to Great Neck.

Grab an iced tea or an iced latte.  Sit outdoors for dinner or lunch.

Take a cruise or rent a kayak from any of the numerous marinas across the north shore.

Shop in our local shops. Grab a movie or a show at one of our cinemas or theaters.

Most of all, enjoy your families and friends.

Please take the time to enjoy the rest of the summer.
