First Fire Captain for Port Washington

Port Washington swore-in Emma Nadel as its first female fire captain, serving Flower Hill Hose Company No. 1.

Nadel’s installation occurred at the Department’s 117th Annual Inspection Dinner Dance,l held at the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club.

Coincidentally, Nadel became the first female captain during Woman’s History Month. Her new position exemplifies how far the roles of women have advanced throughout society.

“It was such an honor to attend the Flower Hill Hose Company’s Inspection Dinner and recognize Captain Emma Nadel’s accomplishments,” said Nassau County Legislator Delia DeRiggi-Whitton (D-Glen Cove). “I have so much admiration for the women and men who risk their lives as volunteer firefighters and I am particularly impressed by Emma’s outstanding record that has earned her the distinguished title of ‘Captain.’”
