Glen Cove Ferry Service to NYC Resuming Soon?

The City of Glen Cove is looking into restarting weekday commuter Ferry Service to NYC, leaving from the Garvies Point ferry terminal and going to West 34th street in Manhattan. The City is currently conducting a survey about resuming service.
A Glen Cove to NYC ferry ran from July 2017 Through September 1, 2017 as an alternative to the Long Island Railroad, based on expected delays and cancellations resulting from LIRR summer repair work.
There was also a daily ferry service 20 years ago, for several years, when now-Congressman Thomas Suozzi (D-Glen Cove) served as Mayor.
“The City of Glen Cove is closely monitoring the number of commuters to Manhattan with the intention to launch the ferry when demand for commuter services is warranted to ensure that the operating cost is sustainable,” stated Glen Cove Mayor Pam Panzenbeck.
When the Garvies Point development was being planned and marketed, one of the key amenities advertised was that there would be daily commuter ferry service to NYC. A Ferry Terminal was built, and docks placed in Glen Cove Creek. Glen Cove originally expected the Ferry service to start in the Spring 2020, but it was delayed due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.
The Mayor’s office asks for residents of Glen Cove and the surrounding communities to respond to the survey, at:
“This survey will help the City of Glen Cove gain a better understanding of the prospective ridership of a commuter ferry service from Glen Cove to Manhattan given workplace restrictions being lifted,” stated Mayor Panzenbeck.
