Glen Cove Pizza Maker Wins Food Network “Tailgate Takedown”
By Maureen Daly
Life long Glen Cove resident, John Zozzaro , owner of the fire truck-food truck “Pizza Company 7,” won the series premier of the Food Network’s “Tailgate Takedown.”
The Food Network show airs Wednesday nights at 9PM.
John caters parties and events from his 1990 converted Mack fire truck, specializing in wood-fired Neapolitan pizza straight from the truck’s oven.
Zozzaro and his teammate, Angelo Competiello, were challenged at Giants Stadium by Dallas Cowboys tailgaters. Judges included Chicago Bear turned chef, Eddie Jackson. The teams competed in 3 rounds of tailgate challenges.
Though Dallas won the first round, host Sunny Anderson complimented John on his elevated seafood feast.
John came back strong winning round two, serving up “NY on a plate.” John credited Nonna’s Sunday sauce with inspiring his meatball sliders.
John and Angelo then wowed the judges with a third round touchdown, a NY steakhouse-inspired platter of porter house steak with creamed spinach and fried potatoes.
Awarded the Yumbardi trophy the NY team went on to watch the night’s Giants versus Dallas game from two of the finest seats in Giants stadium.
Pizza Company 7 is available to cater local events and can be booked at (516) 200-5001.
On March 19th they will be at the Glen Cove St. Patrick’s Day Parade, hosting their 14th annual St Baldrick’s head shaving, a fundraiser to benefit a cure for children’s cancer. The fire truck will be parked outside the Downtown Café at 1PM.
