Huge Port Washington Boat Fire Sinks Two Yachts

A massive boat fire last Wednesday night sank two yachts at the Manhasset Bay Marina in Manorhaven, which were docked for the winter. The flames could be seen in the dark night, from across Manhasset Bay
One person - a 58-year-old male was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. He is expected to recover.
The fire started on a 43-foot Marine Trader boat, which was quickly engulfed in flames.
The fire then spread to a neighboring 42-foot Post cabin cruiser, which was also engulfed in flames.
Both boats sank due to the fires.
The Port Washington Fire Department was alerted at 12:3oAM of the boat fire, which was at the end of the marina.
Assistant Chief Patrick Saccoccia was the first on the scene. The crews of Flower Hill Hose Company 1 and Atlantic Hook and Ladder Company 1, stretched the first hose over 1000 feet to reach the burning boats at the end of the dock.
The fire was put under control about two hours later, at 2:15AM.
A total of eight fire departments responded to the call.
