Joel, a legendary American singer, songwriter, and pianist, was born in the Bronx, but his family moved out to Hicksville in Nassau County, where he was raised.
As a kid, Joel would visit the beaches of the north shore. "I saw it as a magic place. We would ride our bikes up here and peek through the gates at all the beautiful houses," stated Joel. "I fell in love with it."
At the age of four, Joel began piano lessons and became enamored with "rock and roll" music.
While he experienced some obstacles, Joel produced award-winning music that forever cemented his name and legacy in American music, as seen by his numerous Grammy Awards and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
Joel has lived across the north shore, in Oyster Bay, in Lloyd Harbor, and for the past 21 years on Centre Island.
"I have lived all around the Bay," noted Joel. "I love this Bay."
Joel has just listed his iconic North Shore waterfront estate for $49 million. He purchased the property in 2002 for $22.5 million.
The estate was built in 1994 and covers 26 acres on Centre Island. It features a 20,000 square-foot house, a floating dock and boat ramp connected directly to Oyster Bay Harbor, a helicopter pad, a beach house, guest apartments, an in-ground pool and an indoor pool, and a bowling alley.
Through all his fame, Joel still maintains a close connection to Long Island by keep in touch with local residents and Baymen, enjoying the local fishing scene. Even after he sells, he will continue to have a Long Island residence in Sag Harbor.
