The federal Immigration & Customs Enforcement ("ICE") agency conducted several immigration raids on the north shore over the past week.

On Monday, ICE conducted a raid in Huntington Station, and on Wednesday they conducted a raid in Glen Cove.

Similar raids were conducted in Hempstead, Brentwood and Westbury.

Glen Cove Mayor Pam Panzenbeck (R) defended the ICE raids as being targeted at criminal aliens, who are a danger to the community.

"They are looking for very bad people," stated Panzenbeck.

Area Democrats mostly criticized the raids.

The ICE raids are an "intimidation and threat to the peace and safety of our communities," stated NYS Assemblyman Lavine (D-Glen Cove). "The resultant frightening of our children is crudely un-American."

On Tuesday, a car driven by ICE agents got into a car accident with a local resident in Westbury. A crowd surrounded the ICE agents and shouted at them to go away.

There were no arrests. Both the female ICE agent driving their car, and the local male resident who was driving a black Nissan were taken by ambulance to the hospital, with both having only minor injuries.
