National Merit Scholarship Winners Announced

The National Merit Scholarship program announced the names of the north shore area Graduating High School Seniors, who won and were each awarded a $2500 Scholarship as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist:

In addition, the National Merit Scholarship program announced winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

This year’s National Merit Scholarship Program began in October 2024 when high school juniors took the PSAT/NMSQT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
Last fall, the highest-scoring participants in each state - representing less than one percent of the nation’s high school seniors - were named Semifinalists on a state-representational basis.
More than 16,000 Semifinalists had an opportunity to continue in the competition.
From the Semifinalist group, over 15,000 students met the academic standards
and other requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition.
By the conclusion of the 2026 program, about 6,700 Finalists will have earned the “Merit Scholar” title and received a total of nearly $24 million in college scholarships.
