North Shore HS Celebrates "Moving Up Day”

By Maureen Daly

On June 3, 2022, Principal Eric Conteras led the 80th "Moving Up Day" ceremony at North Shore High School. The ceremony has been a North Shore tradition since 1941 – and celebrates the rising classes as they advance to the next grade.

Over 800 students, teachers, administrators and staff attended the event held in the North Shore High School gymnasium. Students from each grade participated.

Mr. Conteras congratulated the school Valedictorian, Kate Gilliam and Salutatorian Emma Nelson - who are best friends.

During the ceremony, the rising juniors performed their musical tribute followed by the senior response.

The traditional Weaving Ceremony followed as seniors made their way to the front of the gymnasium (dressed in all white) while the juniors (in yellow), sophomores (in blue), and the freshman (in green) “weaved their way up through the rows in front of them to move up.”

The seniors then formed the line to walk the gauntlet for the annual Tapping Ceremony.
