North Shore Regeneron Scholars Named

By Samantha Carey

The top 300 scholars were announced in the 102nd Regeneron Science Talent Search 2024 this week, and 38 students from Long Island's north shore (13% of the national total) dominated the awards.

The Regeneron Science Talent Search by the Society of Science is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors, according to their press release. Students are provided a national stage to present their original research, empowering young scientists to generate innovative solutions to global challenges and provide a new perspective.

“Congratulations to the top 300 scholars in this year’s Regeneron Science Talent Search,” said Maya Ajmera, Publisher, Science News. “We received a record-breaking number of applications this year; interest in this prestigious competition is at an all-time high. I am truly impressed by the quality of the projects and the ingenuity that each student brings to the competition. Their diligence, passion, and perseverance should be celebrated.”

The top scholars were selected from 2,162 applications from 712 high schools across 46 states including Guam, Puerto Rico and 10 other countries. The list of 300 were chosen from 196 American and international high schools and home schools in 36 states and China. Each of these scholars will receive $2,000 each and their schools will receive $2,000 each per enrolled scholar.

Projects cover a variety of topics, with the top five categories this year including environmental science, medicine and health, cellular and molecular biology, computational biology and behavior and social sciences.

The 38 local scholars come from schools, including Roslyn, Sysosset, South Huntington, Port Washington, Great Neck, and more.
