Oyster Bay Launches $6 Million Beautification Project for Hicksville
By Ishan Shah
Downtown Hicksville is now slated to receive a $6 million facelift – to make the downtown more resident-friendly and aesthetically more attractive for residents and shoppers.
The $6 million has been allocated for this project by the Town of Oyster Bay, for the Downtown Revelation Project.
Local residents have noted that this is a project that is needed - and are excited to experience the new changes, this upcoming year.
Some of the enhancements include:
A Kennedy Park Expansion – includes expanding the existing park into a giant greenspace for concerts, and more local events such as fairs, and vendors to host at.
The Plaza – a new connection to the LIRR, along with a raised walking path with landscaped greenery.
Hicksville Community Upgrades – This project involves a newly edition of lighting, planting more trees and shrubs; new spaces to sit, more and cleaner trashcans; and more convenient crosswalks - are all part of the Plan; and
New shopping spaces under the Train Bridge, for local vendors to set up shop – with more space, better security and lighting, and less clutter.
“Together we are enhancing and transforming the Hicksville business district into a vibrant downtown that Millennials, families and empty-nesters all desire,” stated Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino. “With good housing, great restaurants, and updated office space near public transportation.”
The Oyster Bay Hicksville Beautification project is a huge milestone in Long Island, and a model for other Long Island Towns to take motivation from - and learn from.
