The Locust Valley Garden Club members took to heart the theme of their unusual flower show “United We Grow”, honoring the country’s 250 years of history.

The flower show was held at the Locust Valley Library, the Club's home venue.

Floral arrangements were displayed in unique containers and flower pots:

Such as “…my grandmother’s soup tureen,” stated Dean Yoder.

Larraine Tassis called her design “Cheers to the USA,” and “I love the USA, I love sneakers,” placing her arrangement in a red sneaker.

Kassie Roth, known for her originality said, “I created a container using sticks from my garden” which she filled with her garden’s blooms.

“What a great day at the Locust Valley Garden Club," added event chair Ronnie Feeg. "The flowers and containers were fantastic!”.

Feeg is saving the display-descriptions to make a keepsake for the Locust Valley historical record.

The flower show included the induction of two new members, Julia Nuget and Kathy Kohut.

And more great programs are in store for the club:

Program Director Jane Benstock will present, on August 19th,Tom O’Connor of the Long Island Bonsai Society demonstrating “Saikei” --- the creation of a living miniature landscape art form combining trees, rocks and soil, in a shallow tray or container to recreate a full scene from nature, such as mountains or forests.

On August 26th, the club will present a fund-raising game of "Bunco" to benefit scholarships to horticulture students at Farmingdale State College.

And members will “Make a Terrarium” at the September 26th program.

Club meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Locust Valley Library.

A donation of $15 covers a program and buffet luncheon.
