Two New Assistant Principals for Roslyn Schools

By Priya Persaud

The Roslyn School District announced two new Assistant Principal appointments for the 2022-23 school year: Jennifer Sheehan for the East Hills Elementary School; and Melissa Hornik for the Roslyn Middle School.

Roslyn Middle School’s former assistant principal Jennifer Sheehan accepted the assistant principal position at East Hills Elementary School. In 2004, Sheehan began her education career as a Spanish teacher at the Roslyn School District. There, she co-advised the World Languages Honor Society and helped to create new electives.

In 2018, Sheehan began the role of assistant principal at Roslyn Middle School with a heavy emphasis on Social Emotional Learning (SEL). Sheehan also introduced the No One Eats Alone Day initiative and collaborated with the school’s administrative team to earn the recognition of No Place for Hate Gold Star Distinction for the school.

Melissa Hornik will be taking on the role of assistant principal at Roslyn Middle School. Her responsibility will be providing support and leadership for the middle school staff and students, alongside fellow Assistant Principal Christopher Roth and Principal Craig Johanson.

Hornik worked at JHS 157 Stephen A. Halsey in Rego Park, Queens and Berner Middle School in Massapequa. She began her education career as a middle school English teacher and eventually became a grade-level team leader, an instructional coach, the English department assistant, and the dean of students.
